JJS, I am in southern AZ and want to receive the T Rex HF commo. which antenna would you recommend? I currently have an inverted V dipole at 30′.
Thanks for all the hard work!
An inverted ‘V’ at 30′ will definitely do the trick for receiving. If your connections are solid and dry (in Arizona… ha!) it’ll all come down to the technology and filters in your radio. But if folks report hearing AmRRON on their Tecsun and Kaito radios, there should be no reason why you’ll miss out on much on an HF ham rig.
I live WAY outside the American Redoubt region (Ohio), but I would like to participate in the T-Rex exercise by listening for transmissions from AMRRON operators – I have a small shortwave receiver and I would like to see if I can pick up any transmitted messages. I have searched all over the web site and can’t find a list of the frequencies people will be transmitting on. It’s kinda hard to listen if I don’t know where to tune the radio!
Is there a list of frequencies or maybe one special frequency that will be used for this exercise? I am totally confused. Also, although there is very little chance of catching anything, I will be monitoring channel 3 on my handheld CB radio, just in case (Using that 3-2-1 technique). I am not an AMRRON member but I plan to join soon and thought this exercise would be a good start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
AmRRON/TAPRN is a nationwide network, with operators in every state. Whether or not you’re able to copy AmRRON traffic during T-Rex depends on many variables. All communications will be conducted in accordance with the AmRRON Communications SOI. You can learn about that by clicking on the banner on the right side of the website. It is the cover of the guide, and says “COMMUNICATIONS SOI”. Also, you can join as a Redoubter or AmRRON member and have access to the member directory which will allow you to see what other members are around you. It’s free and anonymous. Hope that helps!
